Death Penalty Research Question
Is the Death Penalty a violation of human rights?
Is capital punishment a better crime deterrent then life in prison?
Is capital punishment cruel and unusual or is it okay to deny an individual this right for the betterment of society?

Death Penalty Research
1. I am interested in researching whether the death penalty is a violation of human rights. I find this interesting because I see the basic ideas from both sides of the argument to have valid points.

3.
Why does capital punishment cost more than keeping perpetrators in jail their whole life?
Which is believed to be worse punishment for the perpetrator, capital punishment or life in prison?
Why the death penalty is not allowed in only some parts of the U.S.? Why is it not consistent throughout the U.S.?

Maus 2 1st half
I feel like a bunch of questions were made were partially answered or completely agreed upon. I found the book to be really interesting and the discussion for the most part to be pretty bland and boring. The book i thought was very interesting and at the end of part 2 left you wanting to read more of part 3. The most interesting part of the discussion was when david brought up a guard tower outside the window on pg 41. i hadnt noticed it and found it interesting that the author felt trapped with recontting the memories of auschwitz.

Issues in the Congo
The first article i read dealt with many problems with protecting civilians on the eastern border of the Congo. Ihe government has been unable to protect the people of the Congo. Thus the U.N has been forced to intervene.

The second article was about a congo rebel leader who was arrested and is being charged for the rape of around 300 people. It further goes on to explain how hard it is right now for the Congolese government to protect its own people. This also leads to exploitation and manipualtion taking place throughout the country.

I believe that colonialism is a very minor factor in the current situation. The problem is that the they are unable to protect their own people. This is not because of issues from colonialism, but because of problems in organization and technology

Discussion Reflection
I found that I am left wondering about how it would be different scenario in common day. I am left wondering whether at this age of supposive enlightenment whether we can be manipulated in seeing a race and or country as inferior, and feel like we can civilize and rebuild them the correct way. I feel like that it is possible for people to manipulated even in todays age.
